| BThe superlative menu at this seafood restaurant attracts diners from far and wide. Named after the seafaring hero created by the novelist Joseph Conrad, Lord Jim’s reputation for magnificent seafood is almost as well-travelled as its namesake. It is renowned world wide, particularly for its sushi and sashimi dishes that are often to be seen in our buffet lunches and a la carte dinner menu. |

| After a complete and total transformation, the newly renovated restaurant’s concept focuses not only on the freshness and vastness of the sea which is reflected in the variety of exciting seafood dishes, but also on aquatic themes which are prevalent in the sophisticated and stylish décor. |
|
The dining room is approached via a long narrow entryway with a full-length aquarium featuring brightly coloured corals and exotic tropical fish. The decor, while stylish and modern, makes it clear that this is the place to come for seafood. If possible get a river view table to add to the aquatic feel.
Food:
Enrico Froehnel, the young German chef who has been on board since late 2004, has done wonders to create some of the best seafood dishes anywhere in Thailand. A great way to start is to share iced seafood tower, which is an ample selection of the best catch of the day with a variety of spices and dips. Whole Mediterranean sea bass baked in salt crust is also to be shared, and golden pan-fried barramundi fillet with five spices has a crispy skin that gives a delightful contrast to the soft meat of the fish. Desserts are sumptuous with perhaps the pick being sweet chocolate Coquille St Jacques. Lovers of sushi and sashimi will find plenty to choose from but it seems a pity to dine here and not try the wonderful creations of the chef and his team.
Service:
The very best is expected of any restaurant at The Oriental and staff at Lord Jim’s does not disappoint. There is a slight informality to the service, from a cheery welcome at the front desk to the friendly farewell, that perfectly complements both the surroundings and the food. |
